DEATH NOTE : Most Popular Anime Reviews
Death
Note is unlike any other anime I have ever seen. This thought provoking series
shines a light on the questions of morality ,and the dark corners that reside
inside our souls. All of us had wished at one point of our lives to have the
power to change the world for the better, to make it a better place to live.
What if this power has been granted to you? What if you had the power to
eliminate the evil people ,eliminate all the evil corporate entities from the
earth? Would you do it ? What consequences would come of this? And what would
become of this person playing judge, jury and executioner? If this premise
sounds intriguing to you , if you are wondering what I am babbling about ,say
hello to Death Note ,one of the best deductive cat and mouse thriller ever
created.
This
is a story of a high school student Light Yagami with a very bright future
ahead of him. Jaded by the unchanging world of violence and corruption, Yagami
views society with a hidden veil and cynicism . Being unable to do anything to
alter humanity, he ultimately concedes to the status quo. One day while
daydreaming and staring out of the class window, a notebook seeming falling
from the heavens. Intrigued by this, Light feels obliged to check what it is.
Scrawled over it are the words "death note " with some instructions
inside it. Chiefly among them " The person whose name is written in this note
shall die " . Having gained the notebook that can kill anyone by writing
his/her name while having the person's face in mind ,Light has decided to
purify the world of criminals and evil doers and thus become the GOD OF THIS
NEW WORLD.
Talking about the story line of the series, most of Death
note's episode run-time is denominated by the engaging battle of the wits . As
the series continues, it becomes more of a nail -biting thriller with a race
against time. It has a riveting, edge of your seat situational drama. As the
series progresses further you will be hit hard to when you can't decide whether
to root for hero or not. What makes series really special is probably its
presentation. Death note has one of the ridiculously awesome presentations of
any show out there. It is bombastically insane. After the deductive reasoning becomes plan, plan becomes
action, an epic music score sweeps in followed by grandiose choreography and
epic hand gestures that make simple things like swinging pen in air and even
eating a potato chip looks epic.Speculation and preemptive reasoning may seem
boring, but the well written script and the intricate character relationships
are sure to keep the viewers on edge. The occasional injunction of humor serves
as a plus. Animation is done by Madhouse studios(do I need to say anymore about
it ? ) . The visuals are eyegasmic ,artwork is sharp ,fluid and vividly drawn.
The series is not without its faults though. The subs have been moderately and precisely positioned and the nature and ambiance of the background sound and the soundtracks are just way awesome.
What being the prominent of them is that it suffers from a lack of likable characters . I only cared for 2-3 characters throughout the series . Most of the other characters were ignore-able. But this doesn't disappoint me considering the fact that this is a series of just 37 episodes with 18 minutes of duration each. Another thing is that the second phase of the series doesn't live quite up to the expectations as the bar was set higher because of the previous episodes. The ending is deeply satisfying though. On a final note , this is a must watch show. If you want a cat and mouse thriller, than Death Note is for you. The characters, dialogue, and voice acting are all top-quality, which kept me invested in the story until the very end. This is perfect diet for your brain.
