Christopher Nolan | Top 7 Nolanised Movies Ranked and Reviewed

CHRISTOPHER NOLAN
Christopher Nolan is one of the biggest names in the Directors of masterpiece movies that came in previous fifteen years. Today we will be counting down and reviewing top 7 movies which he directed. This is not based on its public claim, box office success, awards won or any other numeral achievement. We will be reviewing solely on the basis of how his movies took the breath away of the audience and left them talking about it for the weeks to come. His movies inspired some great directors and movie makers and showed, if put enough effort into the science and reality of the stuff and how the human psychology will grasp a particular scene, a movie can stand on its own for decades to come.

NUMBER 7

BATMAN BEGINS (2005)

This movie was everything we fans of Batman hoped for. I remember as a child watching Batman movies played by George Clooney and Michael Keaton, and god what a nightmare those were. Batman with nipples (batnipples) HA! In all those movies, we saw batman only as a vigilante who takes on the bad guys at night and is a rich business with boring life thoughts at the day.

But then Christopher Nolan came and gave us the Batman we deserve. This movie had depth and layers of dark and twisted awesomeness and meaning. Bruce Wayne loses his parents when he is a child, which turns him into an angry, pissed off kid who cuts himself from the world. Nolan did a fantastic job in developing the character and showing what Batman truly is. Then comes Ra’s al Ghul played by Liam Neeson and what an acting. This man is a god. To portray the reasons of the Antagonist and showing why he does all the bad things is possibly the most difficult and mind grasping things to do in a movie and Nolan does this like a boss.

Christian Bale performed as Oscar worthy performance and kicked and great trilogy into existence. This movie had a perfect cast and there was no one who acted bad. The Lucius Fox and Bruce Wayne relationship was best, even better than Bruce and Rachel’s. Michael Caine’s portrayal of Alfred had very warped comic relief and anchored into family feel, I cant imagine anyone else as Alfred now. Gary Oldman surprised me with what he can do as Jim Gordan. The moustache and the slim cop with guts to go the extra mile gave him an inspiring personality and filled the movie with joy and kick.

NUMBER 6

THE DARK KNIGHT RISES(2012)

One of the top grossing movies of Christopher Nolan’s The DARK KNIGHT TRILOGY ended with this movie and gave a satisfying and yet very plausible ending to the never-be-forgotten franchise. The Dark Knight with JOKER left the audience wondering what, Nolan now has in his mind to break the Box office records with. He did not disappoint at all.

The night vigilante who had hung the cape since the events of previous movie, finds a new motive and reason to crawl back to the streets of Gotham. Even though, No costume change from the previous movie, Batman had so much to offer, the real reason to be Batman was to be a symbol, which can’t die. This movie showed us that symbol. Does Batman die? Well! Spoilers ;)

It had every intensity and seriousness from the last movie, though it lacked the madness of the Joker, but BANE played by Tom Hardy was the unstoppable force for Batman who powders his bones and crushes his soul.

It showed us the difference between Batman and Bruce Wayne. A normal human can be a much more if he can do what is required, despite of the fire in his path or the height of any well he is thrown into.

NUMBER 5

MEMENTO(2000)

Memory loss, Rewind movie and Impossible screenplay was what 2000’ Memento was about. This movie is considered 2nd in the directorial career of Christopher Nolan and surely made him a recognizable personality in the Hollywood.

From his Brother Jonathan Nolan’s story, Chris made an impossible movie conceivable. It takes a bit time to understand what really is happening and in what order, but the direction is so remarkable and easy to grasp, that you don’t need any sub notes on the screen to tell the time or place.

The colored scenes are from back to front and the black/white scenes are in linear order. This is not the only thing that amazed the viewers. The amazing action by Guy Pearce and Carrie-Anne Moss was unparalleled. I don’t remember her from The Matrix movie, but the Memento.

This movie has so much layers and the art in this is that, it needs a lot of imagination to really understand the gravity of the situation. Every person has a different opinion and perception for how the story unravels.

NUMBER 4

THE PRESTIGE (2006)

This movie was much unexpected. This movie revolves around rivalry of two magicians who are at the course of defeating each other. This movie was all about character building. Nolan devoted a whole lot of time in evolving the characters for two hours of movie time and when the ball kicks in the end, it is the best piece of unexpected pie you never expected for. The story telling of this movie is unimaginably complex and wonderful.

Performances of Christian Bale and Hugh Jackman were outstanding. The difference in their opinions, the fire to be better than the other was portrayed delightfully.

Like all of Nolan movies, this movie requires brain attention. It doesn’t convert one’s mind into pudding like the ending of INTERSTELLAR but it still demands logic.

Nikola Tesla was casted so perfectly and the science fiction behind was very authentic. The movie had a big caste, other than Christian Bale and Hugh Jackman, there was Scarlett Johansson, Michael Caine, Rebecca Hall, and Andy Serkis.

The movie touches the topics of mysteries, one’s inner strength, uninterrupted hard work and focus on a deeper level which can’t ever be matched by short cuts.

NUMBER 3

INTERSTELLAR (2014)

Let me wipe my tears. Yeah! This movie does it. Even though the part of the movie is a father- daughter relationship but it makes the man cries. This movie had no flaw. It wasn’t as successful as the other hits of Christopher Nolan but this was the most impactful movie of the year and most dramatically and heartily performed movie. The science fiction and reality is a same thing in this movie and the concepts of time travel, time relativity was so far the most heartbreaking, tearful and deep put together, ever on the big screen.

This movie won the best visual effects award but it deserved all. Yeah all, awards, the acting of Matthew McConaughey as Cooper was mind blowing. The delivery of emotions were flowing out of the screen and into the hearts of audience which made them feel what the character felt. The not so far pre- apocalyptic scenario of the movie stated that the humans need to leave earth because of the dirt? Yeah dirt, leading to no crops and all the professions turned into farming (almost). The child actor Mackenzie Foy who played young murphy was dazzling. The casting was perfect as Jessica Chastain for adult Murphy/Murph.

Now, in this movie Christopher Nolan had a hope from the audience to be smart. Not smart like the 170 I.Q smart, just normal smart. You have to listen to every dialogue and plot hint carefully, if you don’t, you might wonder in the end, how did that happen? Then you will just be the guy nitpicking the movie, saying, they wasted so much movie on this waste.

This movie is so much for the normal audience. If people didn’t like it, was because, the ending was very unsubtle. I can’t describe it properly without revealing the important plot points but to watch this movie, you don’t need to see Stephen Hawking’s documentary first. You just need to be aware and enjoy as it is supposed to be enjoyed. In the terms of Christopher Nolan movies, this must be the under-rated movie of the whole list.

NUMBER 2

INCEPTION (2010)

If somebody told me Nolan has Ph. D in psychology, I would totally believe it. This movie is so intense and brain twisting that you want to pause or slow-mo the screen to watch the scenes happening because you want it to go forever and ever. This movie created a whole new game in cinema as it mixed Psychological, Thriller, Mystery, Adventure, Drama and Family into one genre. What other movie can do that?

Dreams is something we all have and I never believed that a movie about dreams can be so damn awesome and intense. The action scenes, the imagination and the brilliant screenplay made it the best satisfaction to a mind for a long time. This movie requires brain power and imagination to its peak. It’s like eating junk food for a year and going to the gym suddenly.

The layers upon layers and the depth kept the mind running and schooled me like no other movie.

Dreams manipulation, time relativity, Character development, no other director could have pulled this off.

This movie was compared to Matrix but it was nowhere near. It made The Matrix looked like a 7 year old with cotton candy.

This movie was loved by the people with imagination. And people with no imagination and inner self? Go watch Twilight or Transformer movies. Rest of you? Go watch Inception.

.

NUMBER 1

THE DARK KNIGHT (2008)

This movie was everything. From the people who adore, dream and live by comic book movies to the people who don’t like movies at all, this movie had all the imaginable and unimaginable setups.

The batman was good, yeah! The joker was evil, yeah. But it wasn’t just the fight between good and evil. It was about proving what batman is and Joker’s mission to show how pitiful and repulsive, the moral and soul of the city loved vigilante really is.

Late, Heath Ledger did the best and last (almost) act of his life. His portrayal of Joker is something, no other actor can match again. He had the best introductory scene ever performed on Big screen or small screen, any screen ever.

The way he laughed, his clothes, his face paint, everything was so ruthless. This villain didn’t do the things he did because of revenge, remorse, crime or anything. He did it because he can, because he wants to show the moral shallowness, we humans really possess. Behind all those courageous acts of heroism, all humans are really just insects filled with insecurities and cowardliness, that’s what he wanted to prove. And he did not have any history, no social background, family or even name. That’s what made him more scarier.

Batman, apart from his new suit and always by-side Alfred faces the biggest challenge of his life. Batman and joker, the two people who know nothing about each other and yet hate each other so ferociously.

This movie had best performance, writing, direction and the production team that laid the most fertile egg of the film industry.

This movie showed, Batman isn’t a comic book hero or a superhero, he is a symbol, he is a motive.
